Jets Quarterback Geno Smith Has Jaw Broken By Teammate In A Locker-Room Fight

Preseason football is ugly this year…

**UPDATE**

It appears that the fade that Geno Smith caught was actually for a noble cause, even if the way in which it was delivered wasn’t…

According to TMZ reports:

The Geno Smith locker room brawl went down because the Jets QB was AWOL from an event, which pissed off his teammate … TMZ Sports has learned.
Sources inside the Jets locker room tell us backup linebacker IK Enemkpali — the puncher — organized a youth football camp and charity in Texas last month. He invited Geno to attend — even put his face on the flyer — but for some reason Geno didn’t make it.
We’re told IK stepped to Geno to talk about it on Tuesday, but Geno told him to back off because he wasn’t going to discuss it at that moment. Geno turned away, but IK stood his ground … and socked Geno in the jaw.
One player told us, “He straight sucker punched him.” As we reported, Jets brass immediately cut IK from the team … and Geno’s out for 6-10 weeks.

New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith will be sidelined at least six to 10 weeks with two fractures in his jaw, the result of a locker-room altercation Tuesday morning with reserve linebacker IK Enemkpali.

“It was nothing to do with football. … It was very childish,” coach Todd Bowles said. “He got cold-cocked … sucker punched, whatever you want to call it, in the jaw. He’s got a broken jaw, a fractured jaw.”

Enemkpali, a sixth-round pick in 2014, was released immediately by the team.

“The team knows it. It’s something we don’t tolerate, something we can’t stand,” Bowles said. “You don’t walk up to a man and punch him in the face.”

Smith, who was the presumptive opening-day starter, will have surgery, according to Bowles.

A clearly annoyed Bowles said Enemkpali punched Smith over “very childish” matter.

“It was something very childish, something sixth-graders could’ve talked about,” Bowles said. “It had no reason to happen. If they want to tell you what happened, they can tell you what happened. I told them I wouldn’t say anything about it.”

Sounds like this fight started over some trim.
