Last night, Diddy retweeted the link to a Change.org petition asking the Associated Press to abolish the use of the phrase “child prostitute.” Ortiz Walker Pettigrew, a survivor, authored the petition. “There is no such thing as a child prostitute… from the ages of 10 to 17 I was sexually exploited throughout the western United States, charged with solicitation and prostitution, and jailed as if I was a criminal. I was not a child prostitute or child sex worker. I was a victim and survivor of child rape. And so are the other kids out there now who are being bought and sold for sex. They are victims and survivors of child rape.”…

Michigan To Pay $40,000 To Woman Police Ticketed For Having HIV

One police officer’s ignorance about HIV has cost one Michigan city $40,000. According to the Detroit Free Press, the city of Dearborn has reached a settlement agreement with Shalandra Jones of Detroit after she was apparently ticketed by one of their officers for failing to disclose her HIV status. The incident occurred in August of 2012 when Officer David Lacey pulled over driver Mark Scott because he noticed that Scott’s brake light was out. Jones was a passenger in the vehicle. During the stop, Lacey complained that he smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and began searching the couple’s belongings. When questioned about all of the medication in her purse—including medical marijuana, which she had an expired prescription for—Jones revealed that she was HIV positive…

A Tribe Called Quest has remained one of Hip-Hop’s most influential groups and still hold sway over fans both young and old despite having not released material as a collective since 1998. This coming November, the quartet will celebrate 25 years since the release of their debut album, People’s Instinctive Travels And The Paths of Rhythm, by re-releasing a special edition.
