Basketball Wives Star Pled Guilty To DWI Last Year, Now Nassau County Wants The Car She Was Busted In
Basketball Wives’ Meeka Claxton was arrested and charged for drunk driving – but that’s not even the worst news for the reality star.
Officials from a county in Long Island sued her, demanding she hand over the Range Rover she was driving when cops pulled her over.
Last June, Nassau County Police arrested the reality starlet and estranged wife of NBA star Speedy Claxton for aggravated DWI – which means her blood alcohol level was above .18.
According to court records, Claxton, whose real name is Khameka, was also charged with failure to stay in single lane, changing lanes when hazardous, driving on shoulder and slopes and illegal signal.
Claxton was pulled over while driving a 2008 Range Rover which was registered to a man named Steven Claxton – it’s unclear of his relationship to Speedy aka Craig Claxton.
Then in October 2014, Claxton pled guilty to the DWI charge after reaching a deal with prosecutors not to serve jail time, but have her license suspended for 90 days and pay a $1,050 fine.
However, the criminal case wasn’t even the worst news for Claxton. Nassau County officials then slapped her with a lawsuit demanding the seizure of the Range Rover she was driving while intoxicated.
The lawsuit filed in Nassau County Court explained that per the county law, they have the right to seize the car that Claxton was driving when she committed the crime because it contributed to the offense. They state that if the car isn’t handed over than they want a judgment against Claxton in the amount of $17,975 – which is the Kelly Blue Book value of the car plus $1,500 in other fees.
The case is still pending and the judge has yet to make the final decision in the case. Claxton has yet to respond to the lawsuit in court.
Interesting to note, the arrest took place one month before Claxton announced her divorce from Speedy following eight years of marriage.
