If you haven’t already heard the good news, Winfrey’s OWN network is hosting a legendary music icons concert series, Legends: OWN at the Apollo. Appropriately held at Harlem’s Apollo Theater, the place many legendary musicians got their start, the series premiered on OWN Oct. 24 and will continue to air with iconic acts for the next three Saturdays. For the series kicker, Gladys Knight performed her six decades worth of hits. “I’m always happy to do anything for OWN. That’s Oprah’s network and I love her,” the soulful chanteuse said. “They chose me and I’m flattered by that,” The Grio reported… Tune in to Legends: OWN at the Apollo on Saturdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on OWN.

Announced earlier this week by the Wall Street Journal, Beatz was appointed to The Brooklyn Museum’s esteemed board of trustees. Beatz’ latest venture should come as no surprised as he’s been privately collecting several of the artists the museums as shown, including KAWS, Swoon, Kehinde Wiley, and FAILE. In addition, he put his musical skills to use by spinning an exclusive DJ set for the museum during a FAILE exhibit over the summer.
Salt-N-Pepa To Be Honored By ASCAP For 30 Years In The Game
The current year marks the 30th anniversary of Salt-N-Pepa’s rise to prominence and the group consisting of Cheryl “Salt” James, Sandra “Pepa” Denton and Deidra “Spinderella” Roper are set to be honored by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) later this week for their milestone achievements as artists. “It feels amazing to be coming up on 30 years in the game and have our work still acknowledged and respected as pioneers in music,” Salt told the NYDailyNews of her pending award that will be received on Wednesday, October 28. “The first time we heard that song on the radio we were driving down the boulevard in Queens. Pep hopped out of the car in the middle of the street and I was screaming at her to get back in the car.”
