Singer Talks New Sound On Single “Too Late”
Christopher Williams has traded in New Jack Swing for today’s R&B.
The Harlem-bred crooner, best known for co-starring in New Jack City and singing its title song, “I’m Dreamin’,” showcases his new style on single “Too Late,” a tune with a contemporary R&B sound.
“Too Late” is a song about never being out of time when it comes to pursuing your dreams – a kind of metaphor for Williams’ new chapter in music.
“If it’s something that’s in your heart and in your spirit, when you wake up and God gives you breath, it’s never too late,” Williams told BOSSIP. “It’s just support, an encouraging song about love and conquering your fears and freeing yourself – not over thinking things.”
The single is part of Williams’ new album, “Simply Christopher,” which he said blends old school melodies with the swag of the present day.
“Every classic car needs an oil change, but it’s basically the same car,” Williams said. “That’s what we’re doing now.”
Now married and a father of four, Williams said he hoped fans would give his new musical direction a chance.
“We loved the New Jack Swing period, but that was a great part and a small time of who I am,” he said. “I’m a grown man now, an actor and a balladeer.”
