Al Roker Says Taxi Driver Refused To Pick Him Up Because He’s Black

“Today” show host Al Roker encountered a daily problem for many Black people in the city of New York.

The famous weatherman says a shady taxi driver refused to pick him and instead answered to a white passenger just a block away according to NY Daily News reports.

Mahabur Rahman — facing heavy fines after Roker complained on Twitter Saturday night that a taxi left him and his 13-year-old son high and dry in favor of a white fare — settled a similar allegation in May for $200, according to the city Taxi & Limousine Commission.

The TLC could not immediately provide details on the first incident or say whether it was tied to race.

For Rahman’s second alleged violation, the forecast calls for $1,350 in penalties plus a possible 30-day suspension if he’s found guilty at a hearing.

Roker posted a flurry of tweets to his 422,000 followers late Saturday about his unsuccessful attempt to grab a taxi.

The “Today” show star said a driver sped off when he reached for the door. The cabbie instead picked up a white man a block away, according to Roker.

The taxi driver says the whole thing was a “misunderstanding” and denies skipping on Roker because he’s Black…

“I tell you honestly, I didn’t see him,” the immigrant from Bangladesh said at his Bronx home Monday night. “Black, white, it doesn’t matter.

“It’s a misunderstanding. Maybe he saw me and I didn’t see him. How I refuse him?” he added.

Rahman said he would pick up Roker in a heartbeat if he saw him again.

“Anybody would pick him. He looks like a gentleman. That’s our business. If you ride with my car, you’re going to make the money,” the cabbie said.

With Rahman facing a second service-refusal charge in less than two years, he could be hit with a $1,000 fine and faces a potential 30-day suspension of his license, if found guilty.

No wonder Uber is getting taxi companies out of business!
