Reality Star Sentenced In Drug Ring Case
Was Love & Hip Hop star Mendeecees Harris getting high on his own supply?
That’s what fans may be wondering after the New York federal judge who sentenced Love & Hip Hop’s Mendeecees Harris to eight years in prison also ordered the fallen reality star to attend drug rehab while locked up.
Judge Frank Geraci Tuesday granted Harris’ lawyer’s request for Harris to attend substance abuse rehab in prison, though it was unclear which drug Harris may be hooked on.
Harris, 37, star of Love & Hip Hop New York, got 97 months in prison Dec. 1 as part of a plea deal where he admitted his role in a major drug trafficking ring that ferried heroin and cocaine from New York City to Rochester. As part of his sentencing, Harris has to forfeit $170,755 from his Love & Hip Hop income.
The judge also allowed Harris to serve his sentence closer to New York City, where his wife and co-star Yandy Smith-Harris lives with their four children.
Harris will later surrender to the U.S. Marshals Service to begin his eight year sentence. When he gets out, he’ll be on probation for five years.
We’ve reached out to his lawyer, Donald Thompson for comment.
Harris originally faced up to 40 years in prison for the felony drug charges, but prosecutors asked the courts for a sentence of eight to ten years because he copped to the drug charges and has cooperated with the feds.
