Rikers Island Guard Arrested For Raping Inmate, Smuggling Him Weed

30-year-old Nicole Bartley, a probationary corrections officer at Rikers Island has a DOI dog named Gunner to thank for landing her in a heap of trouble. The drug sniffing canine caught Bartley attempting to smuggle marijuana in for an inmate who she has been charged with raping (inmates cannot legally consent to sex).

According to NY Daily News reports, Bartley was arrested on Saturday after investigators found her in her Bronx home with about 70 grams of marijuana, which she said was intended for her boo behind bars.

She spelled out the sordid affair to investigators in detail, admitted ol’ boy played her like a fool:

“I, Nicole, being a fool had my guard down to this man I thought (I) was falling in love with,” she said, according to the criminal complaint.

“I was in love with him. He used me and played me for a fool. I had sex with him on one occasion in the jail a few days before Jan. 30,” she said.

“I used a condom. It was in the closet in the morning when everyone else was locked in. It only lasted five minutes.”

Bartley has been released on $1,000 bail. She faces up to four years in prison for the third-degree rape charge. DOI Commissioner Mark Peters said in a statement that Bartley is the 26th corrections staffer to be arrested since the department launched its probe to uncover corruption at the jail in 2014, which is ironically the same year (May 2014) Bartley began working for the Department of Corrections. Peters said she will be suspended.

The commissioner also revealed her salary — $39,755 base pay. That’s not much to work with when you gotta pay a lawyer. SMH.
