Beyoncé Donates To Flint, Awards Scholarships To Detroit Students
Baddie Bey recently did some amazing charity work via her BeyGood foundation.
As previously reported the superstar has given over $82,000 to aid the Flint water crisis via fan donations, and now she’s awarded $1,000 scholarships to 14 Detroit students.
USA Today reports:
With money raised by fans during her Formation World Tour, Beyoncé has donated $82,234 to aid residents in Flint.
The star’s BeyGood foundation made the contribution Monday in a private event at Detroit’s Cody High School, where the group also announced support for 14 local sophomores with college plans.
Ivy McGregor, Beyoncé’s director of philanthropy, presented the check to representatives with United Way of Genesee County. The money will go into the United Way’s Flint Water Fund, which is assisting residents affected by the city’s water crisis.
Fans have donated money during Beyoncé’s Formation tour, which wraps up its initial U.S. leg tonight at Detroit’s Ford Field. United Way is a tour partner, and efforts will be ongoing, McGregor told the Free Press.
During the Cody event — initially scheduled to be open to news media — the BeyGood team also announced plans to support 14 area high school sophomores, handpicked by school faculty. Each student will receive $1,000 upon their college enrollments.
The students were also given tickets to tonight’s Ford Field concert.
