The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is petitioning for a bill that will provide tax relief to television shows filmed in New York who employ women and people of color as writers and directors. The push for such legislation was initially proposed in 2013 and is currently pending in the New York Senate. If the law is passed, Deadline reports it would help “amend the state’s existing $420 million annual tax incentives program to allocate $5 million toward those salaries”… In a recent Directors Guild of America Study it was found that in the 2014-2015 network season and the 2014 cable season, white men directed 69% of the episodes and men of color just 15%; white women directed only 13% of episodes and women of color a measly 3%…

Stonegate Bank To Issue The First Credit Card For Travelers To Use In Cuba

This past Tuesday, Stonegate Bank announced it will issue the first United States credit and debit cards that can be used in Cuba. As the Associated Press reported, Stonegate Bank’s Mastercard will help travelers make purchases at state-run businesses or private restaurants that have point-of-sale devices in Cuba. “The Cuban government is exempting the cards from the 10 percent government penalty on dollar transactions, making them the cheapest legal way for travelers to move dollars to the island,” AP reported, also noting the Cuban government’s plan to completely remove the 10 percent penalty once international banks allow the country to have their international transactions in dollars…
