Munich Shooter Killed 9, Wounded 27, Used Facebook To Lure Victims

Yesterday, amidst all the craziness going on in the world, we bore witness to yet another mass shooting overseas in Munich, Germany.

Today, via NYDN, we have more information about the shooter…

The 18-year-old Munich gunman who killed nine people and wounded 27 more was “obsessed” with mass shootings from around the world and may have lured potential victims to the McDonald’s where he started the massacre with a Facebook message advertising a discounted offer, police said.

Robert Heimberger, the head of Bavaria’s criminal police, said it appeared the shooter, who was been identified in multiple media accounts as Ali David Sonboly, had hacked a young woman’s Facebook account and sent a message posing as her to encourage people to come to the fast-food restaurant on Friday afternoon.

Sonboly then went on a shooting rampage at the McDonald’s and a nearby shopping mall before turning the gun on himself.

Germany Munich Shooting

Ali David Sonboly is said to be German-Iranian, but before you ask…

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said the day after the attack that security services “will do everything possible to protect the security and freedom of everyone.” Sonboly appeared to have acted alone.

The German-Iranian killer had no known links to the Islamic State or any other terrorist group but had a sick fascination with mass killings, investigators found.

APTOPIX Germany Munich Shooting

Although Ali isn’t thought to have acted on behalf of ISIS, he was motivated by other terrorist groups.

Police raided the man’s home overnight and found a stash of literature about mass shootings, including a book titled by psychologist Dr. Peter Langman titled “Why Kids Kill: Inside the Minds of School Shooters,” about why young perpetrators carry out school shootings.

Guess his heroes are the azzholes from Columbine and Sandy Hook. SMFH.
