Bill Cosby Drops Lawsuit Against Rape Accuser

While Bill Cosby awaits his trial date — blind and friendless, according to his representation — he has apparently decided to drop his counter claim against one of his accusers. The Temple University employee that he settled out of court with back in 2006 broke their agreement by speaking with police again once the wave of accusations rolled in — a move in clear breach of their settlement. However, Cosby randomly decided to leave the suit alone earlier today.

Via MailOnline:

Bill Cosby has given up on his legal battle with Andrea Constand, the woman who accused the comedian of rape in 2004, in which he claimed breached their confidentiality agreement.

It remains unclear what caused Cosby to cease his litigation with Constand after months of back-and-forth dueling lawsuits. But he dismissed the case without prejudice which means he can refile the lawsuit in the future if he wishes.

Earlier this month, Cosby was granted the right to continue his lawsuit against Constand, claiming she breached the terms of a confidentiality agreement she signed with him years before.

Former Temple University employee Constand was allegedly drugged and raped by the now-79-year-old comedian in 2004, but after police said there wasn’t enough evidence to charge him in 2005, she sued Cosby.

Cosby settled out of court in 2006, with one of the conditions being an agreement not to speak publicly about Constand’s claims – an agreement Cosby claims she broke.

In his 2015 lawsuit, Cosby claimed that Constand and her lawyers helped leak a deposition in which Cosby admitted to buying Quaaludes to give to young women with whom he wanted to have sex.

The deposition, along with claims being made by other women, led to police reopening her case – at which point she and her mom spoke to officers, allegedly in breach of her agreement.

Perhaps Cosby realized it doesn’t look so good to demand your “hush money” back in a rape case situation. Either way, it will be interesting to see how things ultimately pan out…
