Many of you may have seen the trailer for the new Harry Potter sequel, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them… The premise of the film, which stars Eddie Redmayne, is set in New York, 70 years before the events of the Harry Potter books and film series. In the new prequel, Newt Scamander, a Magizoologist, ventures into a secret community of witches and wizards, attempting to document magical creatures. The book he writes is eventually used at Hogwarts when Harry is in school. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zoe Kravitz will be joining that world. Sources claim that Kravitz was added to the cast after production began. She is said to have a small role in this film but there is a possibility that she may play a more significant role in the sequel…

Nate Parker Launches Fellowship For Filmmakers Of Color

… Last night, at Sundance’s Night Before Next event, Parker was honored for his film Birth of a Nation, which will be released this fall. He was there to accept the Vanguard Award for his work. As he accepted the award, he announced that he was launching a fellowship for filmmakers of color. The Birth of a Nation fellowship will sponsor a young filmmaker of color 18-25 every year, for the next five years, as they participate in the Sundance Ignite program. The Ignite program is a year-long fellowship with the Sundance Institute that allows aspiring filmmakers to attend the festival and attend events with other established filmmakers and other industry members…

Former English soccer star Dalian Atkinson has been tased to death by police according to reports from BBC and The Guardian. In a scene that sounds too familiar to African Americans, a Black Englishman has been killed by police. Except this time a chokehold nor gunshot did the deed. It was a taser. The Guardian reports: The former Aston Villa footballer Dalian Atkinson has died after police Tasered him near his father’s home in Telford. West Mercia police said a 48-year-old man had died. It is understood the man was Atkinson, who also played for Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich Town. He is believed to have been visiting his 85-year-old father, Ernest. The force said officers fired a Taser at about 1.30am on Monday after responding to reports of concerns for a person’s safety.
