Thousands of people are looking for love online, but one date with communication that started online ended tragically for a man from Auburndale.
Police said Adam Hilarie was killed after making a connection on the dating website, PlentyofFish. Hilarie met Hailey Bustos on the dating website, and the two went on a date, then back to his apartment. Auburndale police say Adam Hilarie, 27, was shot and killed inside his apartment on Sunset Ave. around 6:30 p.m. Friday night. Police have arrested four individuals for their involvement in the homicide. Andre Maurice Warner, 26, Gary Terrell Gray, 31, Joshua Ellington, 26 and Hailey Rose Bustos, 18, were arrested and charged.
Investigators believe Hailey Bustos was planning to rob Hilarie from the start. A few hours after Hilarie took Bustos home, investigators said she returned to Hilarie’s apartment with Andre Warner, Joshua Ellington and Gary Gray. After a struggle in the kitchen, it’s believed Warner shot Hilarie in the head.
Adam Hilarie was well-known in Auburndale as an amateur boxer, a good friend and a loving dad to his daughter.
