Raheem Devaughn And The CrossRhodes Collaborator Wes Felton Sing About Racial Injustice
This is a reintroduction for many and a formal introduction for a few. Before Grammy Award Nominated Recording Artist, Raheem DeVaughn, became a rising R&B artist, the singer and his lyrical collaborator, Wes Felton, set DC ablaze with their group, The CrossRhodes. Inspired by the unlawful murder of Freddie Gray, Raheem and Wes reunited to provide the soundtrack to address valid concerns affecting the Global community especially the plight of the minority community. Both the sons of jazz musicians meshed lush neo-soul crooning with socially conscious hip-hop word flow. Their first single is the album title track, “Footprints On The Moon” from their forthcoming album being released through BMG in early 2017.
What do you think about the music?
If you want to get a better look at the lyrics we have posted them below:
Footprints on the Moon
You deserve the world my negus
See the world is yours my negus
See it’s never too soon my negus
For Footprints on the Moon my negus
Push the limit my G
Don’t settle for the city the block or the street
They lyin’ bout them there two white feet
That landed on the moon a year after they killed King
What if I told you that the sky was the ground
Of a universal planet that this planet never found
I bet there’s no ni**as on Mars how that sound?
No need for cars, fake broads or fake pounds
I hear them Scooby snacks and them PO packs
Got y’all movin’ while standin’ in the same traps
But you deserve what the lord gave ya’
Hallaluleh! All them flavors
I had a blue dream bout a blue satellite
Sour in my diesel pushin’ a northern light
Crossrhodes in the speaker
Rah on the right
We are medicine doctor atomics in flight
Y’all scared to be y’all selves
Sellin’ your souls by the pound for the fallacy of wealth
We all the new slaves it’s such a catchy phrase
Thousand dolla cotton tees
Corn-husk maze, dance on command
Shuck and play
Build that machine, but tear down the rage
Are you choosin’ or are you being made?
Chains around your neck bearin’ your slave name
Shame your sista’s leave them scarred and stained
Make em never ever wanna trust and love again
We done gave away rhythm and blues
Word to Justin
I know some crooked suits and ties I don’t trust ‘em
The only topic of discussion is who they touchin’
Or who they buyin’ or who they fu**in’
Y’all hangin’ on their words
Youngin’ bangin’ on their words
Little girls getting raped grown girls bankin’ on their words
its all love and hip hop
We’ll call this love and jazz
minus the shady broads or peter gunz throwin’ glass
this country’s got a real scary past
that’s why I wonder how long the empire gonna last
blown away thrown away they recycling the trash
they aint about that life, they just takin actin class
pinnochio’s poets sippin yack and moet
its designed to control yall minds, but yall wont notice
You deserve the world my negus
See the world is yours my negus
See it’s never too soon my negus
For Footprints on the Moon my negus
I know you been hungry in these streets my negus
Had those shoes with holes on your feet my negus
No money in your wallet or your jeans my negus
Tryin’ to stay close to God on your deen
Police on every block with the glock my negus
While negus still getting shot and popped by negus
They gave that boy life when they caught my ni**a
He called me from the cell on a cell like my ni**a
Wake up and smell the J and find a dream my ni**a
Livin the image of God, King and Queens my negus
And just last I had a dream my negus
You can do it you can see it you can be it my negus
See places and faces never seen my ni**a
You aint gotta sell your soul for the cream my ni**a
For a piece of the American Dream my ni**a
From my OG from me to you to my negus
You deserve the world, my Negus
See the world is yours, my Negus
See it’s never too soon, my Negus
For Footprints on the Moon, my Negus
Powerful stuff!
