The man wanted in connection with the weekend bombings in New York City and New Jersey was arrested Monday morning after he shot a police officer, officials said.

Ahmad Khan Rahami, 28, was taken into custody after shooting the officer in Linden, N.J. around 11 a.m., according to the NYPD.

Three men had come across Rahami as he was sleeping outside a bar, recognized him and called police.

In the ensuing confrontation, Rahami exchanged gunfire with police, shooting one officer in his protective vest. The officer was struck in the head by a fragment of the bullet, but is expected to survive.
