Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) Freed From South Africa

After nearly a year of being held in South Africa, Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) is finally able to go home.

If you’ll recall, Yasiin was held by the South African government at the top of the year after trying to catch a flight out of the country using a “World Passport.”

Apparently, after 11 months, the government has decided to let bygones be with an apology from Yasiin and have dropped all charges. He was granted a valid passport and was permitted to jump on a flight home sometime today.

The only issue? According to TMZ he’s been added to a South African “undesirable persons” list.

We’re sure he’s probably had quite enough of South Africa after his almost year-long ordeal…but he does plan to appeal once he gets back.

We wonder if that retirement announcement will hold up once he’s back on U.S. soil…
