Carefree Black Boy Lloyd Explains Why He Went Bucky Nekkid For His Comeback Album Cover

- By Bossip Staff

Lloyd Is Back With New Album And Promise To Be Himself

Here is my official cover art for "TRU", the ep, which will be available for pre order this week on iTunes. This photo means a lot to me. It's not about exploiting myself, as many would like to believe. Yet, it is about accepting myself for how I am. Letting go of all the fears, inhibitions, and insecurities that exist inside of me sometimes. Embracing the fact that my "flaws" are only projected onto me by others, but never existent inside of my own mind, because there are no perfect people out here in this world. And it's about eliminating the gimmicks, the magic tricks, the stage antics. No auto tune when I record. No photoshop when I'm photographed. No pretending I'm something I'm not. I can accept what I have instead of longing for what I wish I did, and I know that even though that may not be good enough for everybody, somebody will love me more for it. #TRU #December9 📷: @benstylestv

Lloyd is BYKE y’all! The R&B singer unveiled his new EP art for his TRU project over the weekend and made quite a statement, if you know what we mean… But beyond his physical nudity, Lloyd included a caption that revealed his intention to be himself:

This photo means a lot to me. It’s not about exploiting myself, as many would like to believe. Yet, it is about accepting myself for how I am. Letting go of all the fears, inhibitions, and insecurities that exist inside of me sometimes. Embracing the fact that my “flaws” are only projected onto me by others, but never existent inside of my own mind, because there are no perfect people out here in this world. And it’s about eliminating the gimmicks, the magic tricks, the stage antics. No auto tune when I record. No photoshop when I’m photographed. No pretending I’m something I’m not. I can accept what I have instead of longing for what I wish I did, and I know that even though that may not be good enough for everybody, somebody will love me more for it.

There’s more though. In a press release for the forthcoming project Lloyd goes even deeper about the artwork saying:

“It was really more of an introspective thing. Although what you see on the outside is a guy who is apparently balls-to-the-wall naked in the woods near a waterfall, it’s really a moment for me to conquer all the fears that I might have had. All the inhibitions, the insecurities that usually exist in a person; to me it’s no exception. Insecurities of the body, being free in a public place.”

“I don’t know if I really captured it with the artwork; I hope people don’t see it and think that I’m trying to sell or degrade myself,” Lloyd explains. “I wanted to make it as tasteful as possible. Unfortunately, a naked body is seen as exploitive or nasty. I think that it’s beautiful, because that’s the way you come in.”

What do you think of Lloyd’s explanations? How do you like the cover?

The project is available on all DSPs December 9th. The EP marks Lloyd’s first musical venture since taking a five year hiatus, time he spent getting his high school diploma, learning to play guitar and focusing on family.
