Former NBA Star Trying To Collect On His $110K Judgment In Defamation Case
UPDATE: This article has been amended to reflect that Gilbert Arenas won his defamation case against Laura Govan after a judge determined she leaked an email to a blog that falsely accused him of giving her an STD in order to hurt him.
Laura Govan said she is weighing her legal options in response to her baby daddy Gilbert Arenas allegedly repeatedly trashing her on social media after he won a defamation case against her.
The former NBA player recently filed a writ of execution against the mother of his four children in order to collect the $110,000 judgment a court ordered in their contentious defamation case, where he sued her for libel, claiming Govan leaked an email to a blog that said Arenas infected her with an STD.
The writ, filed earlier this month, is Arenas’ attempt to enforce the court’s judgment by seizing Govan’s property or other assets in order to pay the defamation case debt. We’ve reached out to Arenas’ attorney for comment.
But the reality star and mother of four isn’t taking the judgment lying down, and her lawyer, Maya Shulman said she’s weighing her legal options because of the way Arenas has allegedly trash talked her on social media.
Govan also hit back at her children’s father for disparaging her both on social media and in front of their children.
“In the meantime, given the (alleged) horrendous things that Arenas says in front of his children to try to get them to turn on their mother, Laura is struggling to find a way to make the children understand that their father doesn’t hate them,” the lawyer said. “We wonder if there’s any way Santa can bring Arenas some integrity for Christmas.”
