“Creep Squad” Member Talks Love Life & Launching Record Label
“Love & Hip Hop New York’s” DJ Self said it’s been hard to find that special someone.
The DJ, who is on the mic six days a week on New York radio station Power 105.1, split with his girlfriend Yorma Hernandez, who was on the show last season. But the father of one said he’s remained single ever since because he said it’s hard to figure out if women want to be with him for him or for the chance to be on television.
“I don’t know what’s real and what’s not,” Self told BOSSIP. “I can’t decipher who really likes me and who is there for an opportunity, so that’s why I’m really falling back.”
Instead, the radio personality is promoting his app, “DJ Self,” and his new record label “Gwinin Entertainment.” The company boasts two up and coming artists, singer Major Galore, and LouGotCash, a 19-year-old rapper and son of Lost Boyz member Pretty Lou.
“The advantage of me doing TV is that I have a whole new set of eyes on me,” he said. “I have a better avenue, a better stream to help their careers.”
Self said he’s already been instrumental in getting a few big names off the ground – but without the accolades or the financial gain. He said he decided to start the label because he wanted to use his knowledge of the music biz to help out up and coming artists.
Although last season of the reality show focused on his oft-messy love life, Self’s storyline this season is centered around getting his record label off the ground.
“A lot of people don’t know the business side of the music,” he said. “I want to be the new age person to help and guide the artists.”
