  • Lady J

This is soooo sad. Unfortuanatley, most of these HBCU’s are in the worst neighborhoods…That’s why my kids didn’t go to an HBCU, I just did’nt want to risk my kids being victims of violence….

  • ATLBlogger

Yeah, I heard about this this morning. So sad. And the young lady who died wasn’t a native of ATL either. So I know her fam is devistated.

I think people should take into account the time of day this happened. It happened at 12:30 am, a lot of crime takes place late at night so you have to be minfdul of where you choose to be at during these times. I think it is so sad, and I think people need to think twice about being out during late night hours regardless of where you are…

    School or not be mindful!!!

I have been out of school for 6 years now and while I went to an HBCU( shout out to Hampton U), our campus was relatively safe but I made sure that I wasn’t out walking on campus or otherwise after certain times just because I never thought it to be safe. I had class in the mornings and wasn’t out past 10 on a school night anyways, but even now I limit going out to clubs and being out late at night in general because the crazies always come out at night and I wouldn’t want to get caught in the midst of something that wasn’t meant for me

Its sad that you have to be so cautious and careful but in this day and age you have got to be choosy about how and where you choose to spend your time

  • Pierre

Very tragic. Condolences to her family.

    @ Mr. Cool
your idea sounds like the eugenics movements from waaay back, who’s to judge good or bad?

wouldnt it be more realistic to crack down on gun trafficking and more gun control

  • hellonursenancy

But really, is that the best picture they could get of that girl?

  • john hope franklin

    @mr. cool

you are on some brave new world stuff!!(a. huxley)

segregation didnt work the first time and it shouldn’t work now…hell, your hypothesis is the same thing as a penal institution?

    its not the solution

  • Rrrrroe Ski Love- A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

If they had cameras visible throughout the campus it would probably help deter crime. Also if the other girls saw the gun, shouldn’t they have saw the perpetrator.

But really, is that the best picture they could get of that girl?
What difference would it have made if they used a different picture
The poor girl is still dead
The way she looks should really not be important at this point
Misplaced priorities and lack of focus are two of the major problems in the African American community
People keep on missing the point and focusing on the wrong things
Black killing black is genocide at its best and it has to stop in order for the community to survive

  • Masie_UK

Was probably one of those thugs from Moorehouse

  • noelle

Was she going to meet some naggas?

  • AUC Alum

…as an AUC/ Clark Atlanta Alum….this is no shock to me….and it is sad that I have to say that..whether this young lady was out headed back from the library or not, her life was just as valuable as the next person and she has the right to come and go as she pleases….the money that’s invested into these schools shouldn’t only fund new programs, and better housing…it should also fund more security, and able-bodied, well-trained officers….I will be glad when that program is implemented so that colleges can become pro-active, as opposed to RE-active….SMH

  • Mika

    SMH……This is heart-breaking…..GOD bless her parents. R.I.P.

~sidenote~ I love Atlanta but it seems that our city is getting very dangerous.Sad. 😦
