Equinox Personal Trainer Kills Managers In Murder-Suicide
A popular personal trainer from Florida shot two of his coworkers at an Equinox, killing them both, according to the Miami Herald. Abeku Wilson opened fire on two managers at the Equinox fitness club Saturday afternoon shortly after the high-end gym fired him for “work place violence” and escorted him off the premises at the Merrick Park mall, police said Sunday.
The gym shooting took place in an upscale shopping center, shocking everyone inside. After being fired, the disgruntled 33-year old personal trained walked on the premises with a handgun, fatally shooting two supervisors: Janine Ackerman, 35, the general manager; and Marios Hortis, 42, the gym’s fitness manager. Wilson the “turned the gun on himself”, dying on the scene. Both of his victims were rushed to the hospital, via rescue helicopter, with critical injuries and eventually died.
One witness said he heard the shots from the locker room and knew it was “too loud to be weights dropping”. “With in seconds, people just started running out”, Ovi Viera, 41, a nurse from Coconut Grove tell Miami Herald.
