Capt. William Hicks Accused Soulja Boy Of Bailing On Birmingham Concert Over The Weekend

A US Army Captain and concert promoter accused rapper Soulja Boy of skipping put on a concert over the weekend despite pocketing nearly a $9,000 deposit.

Capt. William Hicks said the “Turn My Swag On” rapper was supposed to be the headliner for his concert April 6 at the Luxe Lounge in Birmingham, Ala. Soulja’s management and Hicks’ promotions company, W. H. Productions, agreed that the rapper would receive $15,000 in exchange for performing five songs, and Hicks showed BOSSIP their performance agreement as well as receipts for the $8,750 wire transfer that he sent Soulja’s team.

But Hicks said the rapper, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, never turned up to the gig – which included singer Sammie – and Hicks said he had to scramble to find another performer at the last minute. Hicks said Soulja’s manager told him that the rapper wasn’t coming just a few hours before showtime.

Soulja also missed a performance at Auburn University about two hours away from Birmingham, but was able to make it to Vegas for another performance at a nightclub on Sunday, Hicks said.

“Every time I ask for the money, they don’t respond,” the fuming man told BOSSIP. “I think it’s really really pitiful. You’re supposed to be a professional. But you’re in Vegas smoking and drinking and you screwed people over in another state. That is bad business.”

Hicks said rumors are swirling that Soulja didn’t show up because his company didn’t have the money to pay him, and disgruntled customers have threatened him online.

The promoter said he wants his deposit back, an apology and for Soulja to actually turn up and perform.

We’ve reached out to Soulja Boy’s management for comment. In the meantime, Soulja has released a video apologizing for the no-show and blamed it on his flight being sold out.
