A Lil’ Positivity: Colgate Teams Up With Black Girls CODE To CODE A Brighter Future

- By Bossip Staff

Colgate and Black Girls CODE (BGC), a non-profit on a mission to teach one million black girls computer programming by 2040, partnered in 2017 to teach programming skills to young black women. This initiative between Colgate and BGC included a free hackathon workshop Friday, April 28 – Sunday, April 30 at NYU Tandon School of Engineering for girls, ages 12 to 17. The theme of the 2½-day workshop was “CODE a Brighter Future”. The Hackathon taught 150 young girls how to code and design a mobile app that addresses and helps solve a problem in their community.  The hackathon was education focused and allowed students to work in teams with experienced mentors over a weekend building apps and tools. The girls were taught by coders and included ideation, app design + development, and coding lessons. Hit the flip for more #BlackGirlMagic!
