Jefferson Davis Monument Torn Down In New Orleans
The city of New Orleans continues its mission to rid itself of public racist reminders. This morning the city tore down the Confederate Jefferson Davis memorial to a round of cheers from local protesters.
It was not announced when the 15-foot statue would be torn down out of fear that some good ol’ boys would show up and incite violence to protect the honor of their racist Jesus.
According to NYDailyNews, the city’s mayor, Mitch Landrieu, campaigned in 2015 for the removal of four monuments that do not align with the values equality”
“These monuments have stood not as historic or educational markers of our legacy of slavery and segregation, but in celebration of it. I believe we must remember all of our history, but we need not revere it. To literally put the Confederacy on a pedestal in some of our most prominent public places is not only an inaccurate reflection of our past, it is an affront to our present, and a bad prescription for our future. We should not be afraid to confront and reconcile our past.”
Good riddance! Hope the confederate bigots are beside themselves with anger.
