Barbados, Antigua & Jamaica Were Among The Islands Competing For Best In Show
A host of Caribbean countries showcased their local chef’s signature dishes and drinks at a gala to promote the West Indies.
Chefs from more than a half-dozen islands competed for best in show at the “Rum & Rhythm” benefit auction last week at Capitale in NYC.
Attendees went on a virtual tour of sorts for each island, sampling signature dishes from local chefs and sampling rum. At the Barbados hub, Chef Damain Leach served lamb over sweet potato puree, washed down with plenty of Cockspur Rum cocktails.
Soca-inspired violinists Xavier Strings of Trinidad provided the entertainment.
All of the event’s proceeds went to the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s Foundation, which provides scholarships to Caribbean students to study hospitality, languages and tourism.
