A Lil’ Positivity: Karen Civil Presents 1st Annual Live Civil Basketball Camp

- By Bossip Staff

Karen Civil and Adidas hosted the first ever Live Civil Basketball Camp, as a part of Live Civil Day 2017 in her hometown of Elizabeth, New Jersey. Civil and Adidas pulled out all the stops to ensure Elizabeth’s youth enjoyed the first ever community basketball tournament, hosted by Mouse Jones.

#LiveCivilDay successfully encouraged youth to stay fit, active, and motivated all summer long. Three local basketball organizations consisting of 100 kids were gifted brand new customized Adidas basketball uniforms, t-shirts, sneakers, book bags, Beats by Dre Power Beats and a months supply of Gatorade. Attendees were gifted with Adidas sack packs, sneakers and t-shirts at the Mickey Walker Recreational Center.

Jersey native, Kyle Anderson of the San Antonio Spurs, was on hand to help with coaching, shared the importance of staying healthy and pursuing your passion.

“Growing up my dad took me to a lot of events and I always enjoyed them, so giving back and supporting events now is only right… Its extra special when it’s the home state too,” stated Kyle Anderson.

In addition, 5 lucky children were selected to compete during an intense half-court shot contest. Jersey Native, Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers joined in on the tournament by gifting the winner with a signed game jersey.

With the help of her team, Civil successfully bridged the separation gap amongst the youth of Elizabeth by uniting a variety of organizations that best represent Elizabeth’s melting pot. Patrons of the event came together to watch the Khaseem Greene Dream Team, S.O.A.R. Program and Rich Tabor’s New Life Basketball Team go head-to-head in the live competition. Civil delivered an empowering speech to not only expand the knowledge-base amongst the youth of Elizabeth, but also to expose them to the opportunities of non-traditional career paths that they might not have considered before.

“Live Civil Day represents community, positivity, encouragement, health, and wellness. As an Elizabeth Native, I believe it is my duty to give back to my community. Our youth is our future and it truly takes a village to raise a child. I want children to know that they can create the life they dream of despite the odds that are against them,” stated Karen Civil who was surprised with the key to the city on behalf of the city of Elizabeth for all of her accomplishments.
