NY Doctor Goes On Shooting Rampage In Local Hospital
A doctor, formerly employed at an NYC hospital, opened fire with an AR-15 assault rifle and set fires on two floors of his old employer on Friday, killing one victim and seriously injuring six others, before taking his own life.
The man, identified as Dr. Henry Bello, used to work at Bronx Lebanon Hospital. However, he was forced to resign due to sexual harassment claims from another employee. It seems that the hospital was doing him a favor by letting him bow out, because according to Daily Mail, other doctors and nurses reported that he had had a long streak of exhibiting inappropriate and erratic behavior at the workplace before the harassment claims even came about.
Dr. David Lazala, a family medicine doctor who trained Bello at the hospital said that he “was very aggressive, talking loudly, threatening people. All the time he was a problem.”
To top it all off, he had two unrelated sexual offense arrests on his record separate of whatever happened at the hospital. He had been arrested in 2004 for grabbing a woman on the street, and once more in 2009 for looking up womens’ skirts with a mirror.
According to those from the hospital who knew the shooter, he had vowed to “come back and kill everyone,” and even sent a threatening letter to Dr. Lazala after just he was ousted back in 2015.
After shooting off multiple shots on the 16th and 17th floors of the hospital on Friday, he set fire to a nurses station — quickly extinguished by the sprinklers. He then set fire to himself in an attempt to commit suicide, but the burning must have gotten to be too much, as he ended up shooting himself in the head instead.
