Veteran Actress Stars In Box Office Hit Spiderman: Homecoming
Garcelle Beauvais said that it’s no surprise that her new movie, “Spiderman: Homecoming” did so well at the box office over the weekend.
She said that Marvel knows what it’s doing when it comes to finding fresh takes on historic franchises. But more importantly, Beauvais said the newest crop of superhero movies have a diverse cast.
“It’s nice to see that Marvel took the time to hire a diverse cast,” she said. “I think it’s about time that they are realizing not only our value but that people want to see people like them. How can you relate to a character if he’s only one way?”
The actress, also known for her character “Fancy” on The Jamie Foxx show, co-stars in the film as Doris Toomes, the wife of villain Vulture/Adrian Toomes, played by Michael Keaton. The film also stars Tom Holland as Spiderman and Zendaya as his love interest, Michelle.
“When you have movies about us that are doing really well, it finally validates that were are more valuable than ever.”
Besides this blockbuster, Beauvais is focused on her two sons and her production company, “Lalo’s House,” which is about to roll out a short film about the dangers of sex trafficking.
“It’s an exciting time,” she said, “and also for women, to show what we can do.”
