Lucky Whitehead Talks Shoplifting Firing From Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Lucky Whitehead has had an interesting few weeks. On Wednesday, he was unceremoniously fired after news broke that he had been arrested and charged with shoplifting in Virginia last month. The only problem…the man that was taken in was NOT Lucky Whitehead, but another man with dreads that had stolen his identity.

Whitehead swore he was innocent and was backed up by the Prince William County PD when they confirmed that the man they had in custody was NOT Whitehead…but the Cowboys fired him just hours after the story broke.

As he exclusively told the Dallas News, he felt extremely wronged by the organization who didn’t even bother to listen to his side of the story before booting him from the team.

“Let’s not sugarcoat anything. I was pretty much being called a liar.”

“As far as the whole situation went down, I was blindsided. I didn’t know about a warrant that came about in the first place. Clearly, because I wasn’t the person arrested. The head person [in the Cowboys organization] I told, no one backed me up. No one had my back in the whole situation. I knew about it at what? 12:45. By 2:30 I’m released.”

While no one in the front office bothered to listen, Whitehead says his teammates thought his side of the story was valid.

“They believed me. I don’t want to say my teammates [didn’t have my back]. As far as how it was handled? Come on.”

He still has no clue how the perp got a hold of his name and social security information. In the meantime, he’s lost all respect for the Dallas Cowboys organization:

“As far as the stuff that was preached [by the Cowboys], I was left out to dry. You see the mantras that are all around The Star. I mean, by 12:45 I figured out that this is even going on. By 2:30 I was released. What’s the real reason? Let me clear my name. I didn’t have time to do that. I was pretty much called a liar.”

Damn. Pretty cold the way the Cowboys did him. BUT thankfully he was picked up by the Jets.
