15 Facts About Herpes

It’s 2017 and herpes has been in the news for the past few weeks thanks to a few timely headlines from Usher and his leaky green peen. We’ve seen a lot of misinformation about the STD as people have reacted showing they don’t know much about it. So as a PSA we decided to share a few bits of information on herpes and what it really is. Take a look…

Myth: You Can Tell When You Have Herpes – A lot of people think that just buy looking and seeing bumps and burns then you know you have herpes. But facts are most people who have it don’t know. You can spread herpes with viral cells and no bumps present.

Fact: Most cases of herpes are passed from oral sex. So it’s probably best to use an oral contraceptive too.

Fact: Herpes can only be passed from skin to skin contact. Don’t worry about sharing towels and other things however sex toys might not be the most sanitary option.

Myth: You can’t catch herpes if your partner isn’t showing symptoms – you can’t just spot check the junk and think it’s fine. But there’s a window before and after in which you can catch it.

Myth: Herpes causes cervical cancer – Nah.

Myth: Herpes tests are part of regular STD checkups – No. Actually they only do a swab of an actual sore. Regular tests are for the other STDs.

Myth: Blisters are the only symptom – Nerve pain, Tingling, Itching, Aching muscles, Fatigue, Flu-like symptoms
Pain during urination are all symptoms

Fact: Herpes makes you more vulnerable to HIV. CD4 cells (cells that battle against herpes) are located at the base of herpes legions and these particular cells are the cells most at risk of being attacked by HIV

Fact: Men tend to be asymptomatic carriers who don’t experience herpes but pass it on

Myth: Condoms always protect against herpes – No, you are still at risk of spreading infections and any part of the peen not covered by a condom risks exposure.

Fact: Most People Have It. two thirds of people in the world (67%) have the HSV-1 strain of the herpes simplex virus. Only one out of six people have genital herpes though.
