Was This Viral Empty Baby Shower Fake?
An Ohio mom-to-be’s baby shower is making national headlines. Chelsie Collins went viral on Twitter this week after her friend claimed that her baby shower at the local Golden Corral was almost completely empty and attended only by the friend, Dorothy Holmes, and her boyfriend.
Strangers who retweeted the tweet 16,000 times then flooded the pregnant woman’s Walmart registry and she was swamped with 350 gifts out of sympathy. Unfortunately according to NYMag,, the entire things smells extremely fishy and is likely a Joanne The Scammer type scam.
According to the publication, the follow-up tweet which was posted by Holmes also included a Paypal account link for donations. That Paypal account looks to be registered however to Dorothy herself and not the pregnant woman. Furthermore when Twitter users decided to call the Golden Corral where the shower was held the restaurant confirmed that the shower took place and TWELVE people attended.
These claims were backed up by at least one reporter who also called the restaurant and confirmed that it was a farce.
The mom-to-be has been silent on what went down but NYMag, adds that Dorothy’s since posted and deleted a Periscope claiming that she didn’t intend to go viral and was just trying to troll a select group of friends.
SMH! Be careful who donate to out here….
