Stay Strong Plaxico

- By Bossip Staff

We want to wish the best for Plaxico Burress, even though we always give him a hard time for shooting himself in the leg like Cheddar Bob. He made a mistake and is serving his time for it now:

One-time Super Bowl hero Plaxico Burress was sentenced to two years in prison Tuesday for violating New York’s stringent gun laws and was immediately taken into custody following his hearing.

Burress agreed to a plea deal last month and pleaded guilty to a lesser firearms charge. The charges stemmed from an incident late last fall, in which Burress accidentally shot himself in the thigh at a Manhattan nightclub with a gun that had not been licensed in New York.

He is expected to serve about 20 months with credit for good behavior — meaning he could be released as early as the spring of 2011 — followed by two years of probation. Burress arrived at the courthouse at 9:41 a.m. ET on Tuesday wearing jeans and a long-sleeved T-shirt, a stark contrast to the dark blue suit he wore last month when he entered his guilty plea. He was accompanied by his pregnant wife, Tiffany, his almost 3-year-old son, Elijah, whom he carried, his father and stepmother, and his grandmother.

Before the sentencing began, Burress asked for and was granted permission by Judge Michael Melkonian to say one last goodbye to his wife and family, seated in the fifth row of the courthouse. The hearing was brief, as the prosecution and defense told the judge they had previously agreed to the guilty plea and two-year sentence. A soft-spoken Burress then apologized to his family and fans and thanked them for their support. “We will all get through this,” he said.

He was then taken into custody.

We keep Plax and his family in our prayers on his two year bid and offer the same advice as all brothers do… “stay strong,” because jail is a dangerous place.

I’ve yet to understand why ppl say keep your head up and good luck, etc. when ppl are going to jail. If you know that something is wrong, you would be in the predicament that you are in now. Just like when TI bought enough guys to go to Iraq and fight the war by his damn, why tell him good luck? He knew it was wrong.

Just because you have money doesn’t mean that you should get away with everything. The legal system needs to work for everyone, not only the rich.

    would not*

  • MissChoklate

I think his sentence was harsh. He is not a criminal, he made a mistake. Its unfortunate that he is going to miss two years of his life due to one mistake. NY law doesnt care if your rich or famous they make examples out of celebrities. Stay strong Plaxico.

  • I'm Just Me: KEEPING IT REAL SINCE 1983

    Listen to those defending this

Ya boy could have killed someone else and put a whole lot of people in danger. So rather two years for him than life for someone else. Or someone else’s life.

    @Im just me

Girl, THANK YOU cause I was thinking the same thing. He COULD have hurt someone else! Im glad NY has strict gun laws. If that gun had gotten into the hands of his 3yr old then what???? Im glad they made him an example-maybe that 13yr old wannabe thug will think twice next time.

  • told you so

Dude broke NYC/NYS law. He was stupid; he got caught; now he has to serve his time. You think 2years is too long? So what?!? Is damn near the minimum, plus he’ll get out on good behavior. The important thing is that he doesn’t pick up any soap.

  • RT

I’m sorry, but could someone explain how you get 2 years for shooting your own damn self? He could have gotten 6 months and be picking up trash with Chris Brown if he had just copped a deal in the beginning. If anybody is a jackass, its him.

  • Just sayin'

What this idiot did was wrong and dangerous, but even I gotta admit that his sentence is a little harsh based on some of the other crimes celebrities are getting away with scott- free.

I mean, CB beats the sh*t out of a woman (he also could have killed someone) and gets a little community service?! What about Brandy? She straight MURDERED someone due to her negligence and she didn’t do time either. Pfft. I don’t get it.

  • Nique

    @Just sayin’

They did an investigation on the accident, and didnt find her @ fault or press charges. So get facts b4 you start labeling ppl murders!

  • Moreaces - Cowboys are King.

Come on now, that is wayyy to much time to serve for not hurting anyone but himself.

  • KayKay

Whatever,This is some BS!! He got money. You scared, get a damn bodyguard! He should have gotten more time for being a dumbass!

  • BS

this doesnt make sense. 2 years for accidentally shooting himself. people shoot other people and KILL them and get 7-8 years. who did he hurt? nobody. yes he could have hurt somebody else but he didnt and I never knew people getting arrested for what could have happened. some lawyer needs to hop on this quick and fix it.

just dont understand how he got more time than T.I. he shat him self with 1 gun TI bought all the guns in atl and was already a convicted felon…..

  • white male

Michael Thompson on the radio here in LA today said “what is he having a party for? the end of his career”

  • white male

I don’t believe he is being made an example of because of his race. Right when it happened they were saying its minimum 3.5 years in New York, now they say he is getting 20 months.

Look, why do all of you keep saying he’s going to jail for shooting himself, he’s going to jail for having an unregistered gun in NY city and discharging it in a public place.

Not to mention, this couldn’t have been the first time; like he said, security checked him for weapons at the door, how did he know he would be able to get a weapon though security?
