‘Powerpuff Girls’ Is Back With A Fourth Member
‘Powerpuff Girls’ hasn’t aired any new episodes since it’s final season in 2004, but now, more than a decade later, the girls are back. This time–there’s a fourth member with Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup–and the fourth Powerpuff Girl is Black! She is being voiced by South African musician Toya Delazy–who also did the themse music for a reboot of the show last year.
Cartoon Network launched the news of a fourth member, also announcing that the five part story, The Powerpuff Girls: Power of Four will premiere on September 17th. Toya herself posted a picture in the recording booth to announce her role, saying she’s achieving a life goal by being the newest addition to the team.
Senior Vice President at Turner Broadcasting in Southern Europe and Africa, stated: “Toya is definitely a perfect fit as the fourth Powerpuff Girl. She is confident, bubbly and quirky, all the values that we are familiar with, love and appreciate. We have a lot of surprises up our sleeves.”
We all know this ain’t the first purple Powerpuff Girl–We’re looking at you, Bunny–but it’s exciting nonetheless to see a POC add to such a prominent cartoon from some of our childhoods.
