Some of Chi Town Not Feeling the Olympics in 2016, Six Arrested During Anti-Olympic Protest
Six people were arrested after criminal damage was done during an Anti-Olympic protest last night. The protesters snatched down and damaged decorations which were going to go on the Picasso statue in Daley Plaza in preparation for the Chicago bid to host the 2016 Olympics. Even with Obama fighting to help the town, folks still got out of pocket.
As workers tried to decorate the Statue, protesters came chanting “No Games” and attempted to grab a gold medal decoration prop. Unable to grab the medal, a protester took the brown bag wrapping that held the medal and set it a flame. Chicago police immediately grabbed up the protesters involved and put them into custody. Other protesters who watched the incident say that the police abused the protesters and should respect their freedom of speech.
The six protesters arrested could face possible felony charges which include damage to property and possible arson charges. We’re sure this can’t be a good look for Obama and others who are pushing to bring the games to Chicago to help regain some revenue in America to help the struggling economy.
Members of No Games Chicago, the group which organized the rally, are now headed to Copenhagen to inform the IOC that Chicago is in such financial straits that it cannot afford the games and is not fit to host such a major event.
