Colin Kaepernick Named GQ Magazine’s Citizen Of The Year
Colin Kaepernick may be currently blackballed by the NFL but that’s not stopping him from winning off the field. The inspiring athlete is covering the latest issue of GQ Magazine as their “Citizen Of The Year” in their Men of The Year series.
Ironically, Kaep didn’t utter a single word for the feature titled “Colin Kaepernick Will Not Be Silenced” and instead was highlighted by his peers including Ava Duvernay, J. Cole and his longtime love, radio personality Nessa.
Ava Duvernay: “–I’m just really honored to know him. He’s sitting there and I’m sitting there and I’m like, “Look at this brother—he’s doing better than any of us would’ve done.” A lot better. With a lot more elegance.”
J. Cole: “And he wasn’t backing down. And he wasn’t afraid. He was just being honest. And it didn’t seem like he was looking for attention. It caught me off guard because, you know, nothing personally against him, I just didn’t know when I met him that the person with the biggest balls in sports would be him.”
Nessa: “I’m very fortunate that I have Colin next to me. It’s everything. We love each other, we care for each other, and we have to remind each other that, hey, we’re doing our part, we’re trying to make a difference.
The story also features stunning images of Kaep alongside black youth captured by photographer Martin Schoeller.
GQ got this one 100% right.
