Viola Davis Producing And Starring In New Movie Based On Terry McMillan Book

This is BIG! Universal Picture placed the winning bid in a hotly contested auction to option the rights to Terry McMillan’s bestselling novel “I Almost Forgot About You,” from The Jackal Group, according to Deadline reports.

Viola Davis is set to star in the film, which will be directed by Malcolm D. Lee. Davis is also producing the project along with her hubby Julius Tennon through their JuVee Productions, along with Malcolm Lee and his Blackmaled Productions company, as well as The Jackal Group’s Gail Berman and Joe Early, who acquired the book in May.

Meanwhile, McMillan will be earning another check to write the script alongside Ron Bass (‘Rain Man,’ ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’) who she also worked with on ‘How Stella Got Her Groove Back’ and ‘Waiting To Exhale.’

Davis will play Georgia Young, a twice-divorced, successful optometrist who goes on a wild journey of self-discovery, reuniting with old lovers, and getting a brand new lease on life. Published by Crown, the book was a bestseller for McMillan.

This is dope. We love seeing black folks creating their own content and their own lane. Def looking forward to this one.
