Timbaland Reveals OxyContin Addiction
An iconic producer is revealing some shocking secrets about his personal life. Timbaland recently sat down with Rolling Stone to reveal a hidden battle with OxyContin that nearly killed him. According to the beat-maker, 45, he went through a cycle of depression and found himself addicted to pain pills he originally took for nerve issues from a gunshot wound he suffered as a teenager.
“I was on drugs, dude,” he says. “I was on OxyContin. […] “Music is a gift and curse,” he says. “Once you’re not popping, it plays with your mind. The pills helped block out the noise – I’d just sleep all day.”
Timbaland also recalled a time where Jay Z himself cautioned him from doing interviews while on the pills because “he was saying crazy s**t” and added that he had a near-death experience where he “saw light.”
“All I can tell you is that there was a light,” he says. “I woke up trying to catch my breath, like I was underwater. But through that whole thing I saw life – I saw where I would be if I don’t change, and where I could be if I did.”
Timbo told the publication that he’s clean now and 40 pounds lighter thanks to healthy eating and boxing. He’s also working on new music for Justin Timberlake’s new album that will “put Justin on another plateau.”
We’re so glad to hear that things are going much, much better for Timbaland. We can’t wait to hear the new fire he’s cooking up.
