Woman Gets Sexually Assaulted On Her Flight To Detroit
A 22-year-old woman woke up from a nap to find a man sexually assaulting her while aboard a Spirit Airlines flight to Detroit. The man sitting next to her was apprehending and charged with aggravated sexual abuse by federal authorities following the Wednesday flight.
The young woman was sitting in the window seat next to Prabhu Ramamoorthy. She woke up startled to find her shirt and pants were both unbuttoned with Ramamoorthy digitally penetrating her, according to reports from The Detroit News. Ramamoorthy stopped when he saw that the woman was awake, which is when she notified a flight attendant.
The man was then detained by the Wayne County Airport Authority and later told authorities that he had fallen into a deep sleep and did not assault the woman. Later, he admitted to FBI officials that he “might have” unclasped the woman’s bra, grabbed her breast, and unzipped her pants.
A CNN report found that FBI investigations into sexual assault while on flights have jumped by 66 percent from the fiscal year of 2014 to 2017. Several women shared their stories of sexual assault with the publication.
