21 7-Eleven Employees Arrested Across The Country

On Wednesday morning, Immigration agents targeted almost 100 7-Eleven stores spanning from Los Angeles to New York, and ended up arresting 21 of the respective store’s employees. The arrests were made in connection with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the dozens of raids are said to be a, “warning to other companies that may have unauthorized employees on their payroll.”

ICE Director Thomas D. Homan spoke on the situation to NBC News saying, “Today’s actions send a strong message to U.S. businesses that hire and employ an illegal workforce. ICE will enforce the law, and if you are found to be breaking the law, you will be held accountable.” It has been reported that ICE has reportedly made nearly 40% more arrests since Donald Trump took office. SMH.

7-Eleven’s response to the raids was a statement that insisted the company follow the standards for hiring documented citizens, but that each franchise is run by independent business owners who are “solely responsible for their employees…” ICE had a similar effect on the popular chain back in 2013, when they arrested nine 7-Eleven franchise owners and manager on charges of employing undocumented workers.
