Jermaine Dupri Will Receive The “Breaking Barriers Award” At The Global Spin Awards Feb. 15
Jermaine Dupri said he was honored to be recognized at the Global Spin Awards next month for his work in music and helping to bring his city of Atlanta to the forefront of hip-hop.
Durpri will be honored with the “Breaking Barriers Award” next month at the 6th annual Global Spin Awards in Los Angeles. Timbaland will also take home the “Lifetime Achievement” award and DJ’s from around the country will compete for best in show.
“It was my goal to have Atlanta be a part of every other city’s conversation,” Dupri told BOSSIP. “I felt like I started something in my city that a lot of people didn’t see at first. I wanted to bring it to people’s attention.”
Dupri said his award also recognized his journey from DJing to producing to owning his own record company.
“When they called me, I got really excited because I started out as a DJ and wanting respect from DJ’s,” Dupri said. “You want them to play your music.”
He added: “This is something that speaks to me and my career.”
And although rumors are swirling that Dupri is back with Janet Jackson, the So So Def CEO remained coy on who he’d bring as his date to collect his gong.
“No!,” Dupri said when we asked if he would take a special lady with him to the show. “Not that I know of.”
The Global Spin Awards will air Feb. 22 on REVOLT.
