Couple Holds Woman Hostage Chained To Their Bed

A woman in Texas was kept chained to a bed and forced to clean a couple’s home for almost 2 weeks following an ongoing affair with one of her kidnappers, according to police.

Jean-Claude Demars and his wife, Charlotte Kelly Demars, were arrested after police received a tip and found the 51-year-old victim shackled to a bed inside the couple’s home on January 26, according to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by WFAA. The woman told police that she had been involved in an affair with Jean-Claude Demars for 8 years, and said she woke up in the home after her former flame gave her a drink at a gas station 12 days prior.

The victim told police that once she awoke inside the home she was informed that she was there to be “Charlotte’s slave.” She was reportedly forced to clean up dog feces inside the home but had to use a bucket as a restroom for herself. Police estimated up to 40 dogs were kept at the home of the couple.

While Jean-Claude admits to picking up the victim, he told police that he only took her back home because she started getting “loopy” and lost consciousness at the gas station. The couple also claimed they kept the victim chained up for no reason but their own safety.

Authorities found leg cuffs, chains and collars inside the home, before taking the couple into custody. As of Wednesday they remain held at the Ellis County Jail on $150,000 bail each.

At the hospita, the victim told authorities that the couple gave her a tablet for entertainment, which she used to send a message to someone who notified police, CBS Dallas reports.
