Best Buy is about to stop carrying CDs in store
Where’s The Music? Starting July 1st, Best Buy Will No Longer Carry CDs In Store, And Target May Follow Suit

Physical CDs Won’t Be Available At Best Buy For Long
It’s a sad day for music lovers.
Best Buy notified music suppliers recently that they are going to cease selling CDs at stores beginning on July 1. According to Billboard, CD sales have already dropped by a sizable 18.5 percent in the past year–and this huge move is sure to hurt the already declining physical sales as people switch to streaming platforms like Spotify and Tidal.
Good news, however, for some collectors and those who like records: Despite not carrying CDs, Best Buy will continue to stock their shelves with vinyl, at least for the following couple years due to commitments with vendors.
Target hasn’t announced any plans to do the same just yet, but they might be changing the way they do business. The retailer has asked music suppliers to be switched to scanned-based trading, which would mean the company pays for CDs and shipping fees if they are unsold and returned to the supplier. If they can’t work out a new deal, Target may follow right behind Best Buy and rid their store of the discs for good.
It’s definitely saddening for those of us who still like to go to the store and support our favorite artists–how many of y’all still buy CDs?
