The Lakers Fined $50K For Magic Johnson’s Tampering
The Los Angeles Lakers were fined $50,000 by the NBA on Tuesday. They were punished for another violation of the league’s anti-tampering rule following the team’s president Magic Johnson recently praising Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks.
This isn’t the first time the NBA has fined the Lakers over issues of tampering. The team was forced to pay a whopping $500,000 in August after the NBA claimed that an investigation produced evidence of contact between general manager Rob Pelinka and Paul George’s agent after already being warned about tampering.
The latest fine comes after Johnson recently praised Antetokounmpo’s play in an ESPN interview. The Lakers president also said that the star would someday lead the Bucks to a championship, a source told ESPN that the fine on Tuesday was for the comments made in that interview.
