Muhiyidin d’Baha Passes Away

According to multiple reports, early on Tuesday morning, Black Lives Matter activist Muhiyidin d’Baha was shot and killed in New Orleans. The Grio reports d’Baha had been found around 1:25 a.m and apparently been shot in the leg while riding his bicycle. Although the man was taken to then hospital, he died due to his injuries.

d’Baha is being remembered for his actions captured on live television last year when he tried to take a Confederate flag from a protester in South Carolina. The image of the BLM activist crossing police tape to bring the flag down incited reactions virally. He was later charged with disorderly conduct over his actions.

GoFundMe page to bring d’Baha’s body back to Charleston and to pay for the memorial service has been set by his niece. By Tuesday evening, the fundraiser had already far surpassed its goal of $7,500 and had raised nearly $15,000.

May he Rest In Peace.
