It wouldn’t be the holidays if TV One didn’t gift us with an original Christmas movie. Merry Wishmas tells the story of successful businesswoman Kenni who hasn’t returned home to the quaint town of Columbia, South Carolina in years. She’s hoping for a peaceful visit when she finally returns home, but unresolved family issues threaten to make the Christmas holiday not so bright.

You’ve been an actress, in front of the camera for many years. What made you decide to take your talents behind the camera?
I’ve always wanted to create content and have never wanted to only be an actress. Being a part of creating content starring black women in lead roles is the reason we started our company Nina Holiday Entertainment almost 14 years ago.
How is “Merry Wishmas” different from all the other holiday films?
The cast of characters and how they tell their truths is what makes it different. There’s love, laughter, family drama and romance all mixed up.
What was it like working with real life couple Tamela and David Mann?
We’ve been connected for years from Meet The Browns, Mann & Wife and other projects. We are family so it was a familiar space for us. Always lots of laughs, respect and adoration. They trusted me to guide them through the process of these characters and I pushed them to show their fans a different side of them.
What advice would you give on surviving the holidays for people with dysfunctional families?
Forgive, share your love and laugh a lot. Enjoy the moment.
Besides Merry Wishmas, what’s a holiday movie you’ll never get tired of watching?
I love “This Christmas”.
