Sarah Rose Summers AKA “Miss USA” Makes Condescending Statements About Multilingual Miss Universe Contestants

A young white woman who is still in the running to become the next “Miss Universe” is accused of behaving like a real-life version of Regina George’s character in “Mean Girls”. Sarah Rose Summers was being recorded on a live stream when she appeared to be offering up her empathy for fellow contestants Ms. Cambodia and Ms. Vietnam for not having English as their first language. Summers said in what folks are interpreting as condescending, “Miss Cambodia is here and doesn’t speak any English, and not a single person speaks her language. Francheska said that would be so isolating, and I said yes…and just confusing all the time. Poor Cambodia.”

Nebraska native Miss USA continued with “empathy” for Miss Vietnam by making fun of her smile when people talk to her in English.

She said, “and she pretends to know so much English, then you ask her a question, after having a whole conversation with her and she goes [makes a smiling face and laughs]”. Ironically, the Miss Universe preliminary pageant is taking place in Thailand, and the women are from all over the world. speak multiple languages and mostly from places where English isn’t even spoken.
