Vice‘s New CEO Has Some Choice Words For Desus & Mero

You never know what you got ’til it’s gone–but in Nancy Dubuc’s case, it looks like she still doesn’t know what VICELAND had with Desus & Mero; The new CEO of Vice seems to think the network’s formerly highest rated program won’t last at their new network, Showtime.

In a recent interview with Elle, Dubuc expressed some disbelief in the brand, saying that Desus Nice and The Kid Mero’s fanbase isn’t in line with the group of people willing to pay for a platform like Showtime.

She is trying to fill up airtime on Vice’s television channel with high-quality content; later this year, she will introduce a two-hour nightly live broadcast in place of the former talk show hosted by Desus and Mero, whose departure to Showtime marked a major loss for the brand. “They’re going to a platform that their audience doesn’t pay for,” she tells me. “I told them, ‘You can always come back.’ ”

Though accessibility is something that Bodega Boys fans were initially worried about as well, Desus and Mero know their fanbase–and as they expressed to Bossip in an interview following their live show in Atlanta this past summer, the new show (which starts February 21) will be available in more ways than one:

Mero resumed, “people are scared because they think it’s gonna be wild inaccessible, and it’s not gonna be wild inaccessible.”

“You don’t have to have a Showtime login to watch what we’re gonna put out,” Desus assured. Bodega Hive is something very personal to us…we cannot just sh*t on this f**king fanbase.”

So, after ending their show 2 months early following the exciting announcement of a new Showtime gig, it looks like Vice still isn’t done taking shots at the most notable show to grace their own network.

If Dubuc is still open to welcoming Desus and Mero back after the grief they expressed about the network following their departure, it seems pretty clear who needs who more.

See you on February 21, ballbags.
