El Chapo Found Guilty
Joaquín Guzmán Loera is going away—potentially forever. El Chapo was found guilty today, February 12, on 10 federal criminal counts.
The New York Times reports that Chapo looked shocked and his wife tearfully gave him a thumbs up.
“Mr. Guzmán sat listening to a translator, looking stunned. When the reading of the verdict was complete, Mr. Guzmán leaned back to glance at his wife, Emma Coronel Aispuro, who flashed him a thumbs up with tears in her eyes.”
The cartel leader now faces life in prison at his sentencing hearing scheduled for June 25.
Before his sentencing, 56 witnesses testified against, 14 of whom once worked with him.
El Chapo’s lawyers are planning to file an appeal for the Sinaloa drug cartel leader.
