‘Rel’ Along With ‘The Gifted’ Won’t Return For Future Seasons
Fox has started making cuts from its T.V. lineup and unfortunately, Lil Rel Howery‘s comedy Rel won’t be making it to a second season.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rel along with the sophomore drama The Gifted were cut from the newly independent Fox Entertainment. Both shows were produced by 20th Century Fox Television, the TV studio that was apart of the $71.3 billion asset sale from Fox to Disney.
Rel, which followed a newly divorced single father on the South Side of Chicago, was executive produced by Jarrod Carmichael. Its cancelation comes after the cast and creators continue to mourn the loss of their co-star Kevin Barnett. He also co-created the show with Lil Rel and Josh Rabinowitz.
Lil Rel spoke about the show’s cancelation on Instagram writing:
“I want to thank all the loyal 2 million plus people that tuned in every week to my show… I’m so proud of what we did and it was a dream come true… I got a chance to not only create a show based off my material and some real life events I got to work and create magic with my friends… God is so good and I’m truly blessed… Thanks again for the huge opportunity and it’s on to the next one… I learned a lot and it’s still a huge accomplishment for me to pull this off… I wanted to make a dramatic comedy with heart and I did that… I know I made you proud Mom!!!!!!”
While Lil Rel might be exiting the T.V. world for a bit, he has a couple movie projects on the horizon, including the comedies Good Boys and Bad Trip with Eric Andre.
